Double Intention

This Insight is intended to give you more than marketing ideas.  You will also receive information regarding your business’s responsibilities under the new health care law. My thought to offer this you was prompted a week ago when one of my clients expressed concern over exactly what information she needed to give her employees about the new health care law.  “I don’t offer them health insurance,” she reminded me.

Having been working the past couple of weeks on this exact situation with Verhelst CPA, another client, I knew that all businesses had a responsibility to give information to their employees about the new health care law by October 1 whether the business offered health insurance or not.  “That doesn’t matter,” I replied.  “You still must give your employees information by October 1.”

“What do I need to tell them?” she responded.  “I don’t know where to find what I need to tell them.  Where do I find that?”

“The information has been printed by the Department of Labor,” I explained.  “I will send it to you.”

As I was sending it to her, you came to mind.  I wondered if you knew that you needed to give this information to your employees by October 1.  Further, I wondered if you knew where to get the information.  Thus I decided to include it in my Insight this week.

I became aware of the October 1 deadline from Marty Verhelst of Verhelst CPA.  The firm’s position with its clients is being a trusted resource that offers peace of mind.  Marty viewed the implementation of the new health care law as causing confusion.  He knew that his clients needed information from a trusted resource regarding what to do, when to do it, and where to get the information to give employees.  In anticipation of the new law, he and his staff have been learning all they can about it through reading and seminars.  He wanted to let his clients know their businesses’ deadlines and responsibilities regarding it.

To get this information out, I suggested a series of four weekly e-mails.  Each week, we addressed different basic information.  This first week, we answered a question about the first deadline.  Read that e-mail below.

Subject line:  Are you confused about the new health care law?

We know that many people are confused about how the new health care law will affect them and their businesses.  To answer some of your basic questions, we will be sending you e-mail updates about the new health care law for the next few weeks.  We’ll make these brief and easy to understand.

Today’s question is:  What is the first deadline?

Under the new health care bill, employers are required to provide notice to their employees  about the new health insurance marketplace.  They also must offer information regarding health care coverage available through the employer. This must be given to all current employees, including part-time employees, by October 1, 2013, and all new hires within 14 days of their start date.  Even if the company does not offer health care, this must be done to inform employees of their options including the health care exchanges that will open October 1, 2013.

If you offer insurance to your employees, click here for a template provided by the Department of Labor which you can use to inform your employees of their options.   If you do not offer insurance, click here.  You can find templates in other formats, such as Word, by clicking here.

If you have further questions about the new health care bill, call me.  We can schedule a time to sit down and review what you need to do for yourself, your employees, and your business.

Working together, we think that you can save money under this new health care bill.

Notice that in addition to offering this information, Marty also offered to answer further questions through a meeting with management and/or employees.  He took a positive stance on the situation.  From his calculations, he thinks businesses may save money under this new bill.  He is doing all of this to deliver on Verhelst CPA’s position of being a trusted resource that offers peace of mind to its clients.

What is your business’s position with your customers?  Are you delivering on that position?

This week's marketing trivia challenge is How have you seen a company deliver on its position? E-mail me your answer.
